In 2009 in collaboration with Circuit Club, and BMW Clubsport, a European vehicle specific advanced driver training event series has been created to cater specially for all European vehicle enthusiasts – this series is now open to all vehicle enthusiasts and purpose built race cars!

Fire extinguishers, battery location stickers, headlight film, and tow ropes are not required (with the exception of Phillip Island) as this series is designed to cater to standard showroom vehicles.

The EPCC Events are Time Trial / Super Sprint based events with points and prizes awarded for the fastest outright times as well as fastest handicapped times recorded by competitors in their respective categories – don’t worry about the math just strap in and have fun out there on the circuit.

The Committee has formulated the following classes, regulations and guidelines to ensure each driver, regardless if they drive a modified vehicle or not, has an equal chance of winning on the circuit in their respective category. i.e. a skilled driver in a showroom standard vehicle has more chance of winning than an unskilled driver in a highly modified vehicle.

The series will be contested over a total of 10 rounds (only a competitor’s best 8 rounds will be counted). Circuits included but not limited to Wakefield Park, Eastern Creek, Winton Raceway, Phillip Island with special stages planned at the Eastern Creek Skid Pan and Western Sydney International Dragway.

It is recommended (though not compulsory) that participants obtain a Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) Level 2 Speed licence or higher. This licence can be easily obtained via their website at http://www.cams.com.au/ and will provide you with discounted entry at Wakefield Park. Note: Phillip Island Circuit Events require you to have a CAM L2S.

Class Classification

Classes are largely based on vehicle shape e.g. Hatch, Sedan / Avant, Coupe and Open.

Hatch – All 3 and 5 door Hatches e.g. Audi S3, VW Golf, BMW Mini, Renault Clio, etc.

Sedan / Avant – All 5 door Sedans / Avants e.g. Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mitsubishi Evolution, etc.

Coupe – All 2 door Coupes and Roadsters e.g. Audi TT, BMW M3, Nissan Silvia, Porsche 911, etc.

Open – All purpose built race cars e.g. Westfields, Radicals, Production Cars, etc.

• All ‘all wheel drive’ vehicles may attract a time penalty over their front / rear wheel drive counterparts if a front / rear wheel drive vehicle is competing in their category.

• All rear wheel drive vehicles may also attract a time penalty over their front wheel drive counterparts if a front wheel drive vehicle is competing in their category.

• All vehicles fitted with a DSG, Sequential or Automatic gearbox may attract a time penalty over their manual gearbox counterparts if a manual gearbox fitted vehicle is competing in their category.

• V6 and V8 engine (Turbocharged or NA) equipped vehicles may also attract a time penalty over their 4 cylinder equipped counterparts (dependent on power output) if a 4 cylinder (Turbocharged or NA) equipped vehicle is competing in their category.

• Superseded models may be given a time bonus (0.1 – 2 seconds) dependant on circuit if a later model vehicle is competing in their category.

• Competitors may choose to run Semi Slick / Slick tyres as listed in the Cams Manual however, will attract a time penalty which varies according to each circuit e.g. Wakefield Park 2 – 3 seconds. On the flip side competitors choosing to run Nankang Tyres (or similar) will receive a time bonus compared to competitors with R Spec Tyres to maintain an even playing field.

Modifications

• There is no restriction on modifications performed to a vehicle - all ‘road’ and ‘circuit specific’ modifications are permitted.

• As a competitor you are also eligible to secure special discounts and offers from our promotional partners. So if you are thinking of modifying your vehicle, speak to the businesses that support this event series and save BIG.

Power (KW) to weight and Torque (NM) to weight Ratio

• The vehicles factory weight as per the vehicle data sticker (located in the competitors service book and / or wheel well) will be divided by KW and NM produced at the flywheel to determine this figure.

• Modified vehicles (i.e. flashed or chipped ecu’s, lager turbo conversions, increased engine capacity, larger exhaust systems, dump pipes, etc) will need to provide a dynamiter report / mechanics report / or faithfully disclose the new power (KW and NM) figure, for the purposes of determining handicap and to ensure all competitors are competing on an even playing field.

• Vehicles that have been stripped (i.e. removed numerous items of interior trim for the purposes of saving weight) will need to provide a weighbridge ticket or corner weight report from your mechanic (total car weight in race condition without driver and minimum half tank of fuel) for the above reason.

• For your nearest weigh bridge location, please visit http://www.weighbridges.com.au/locations.htm

Point Score and Award System

• Placing per category 1st – 10 points, 2nd – 9 points, 3rd – 8 points, 4th – 7 points, 5th – 6 points, 6th – 5 points, etc (per timed session).

• Power to Weight Ratio per lap time 1st – 10 points, 2nd – 9 points, 3rd – 8 points, 4th – 7 points, 5th – 6 points, 6th – 5 points, etc (per timed session).

• If a category has less than 10 competitors registered on any day of competition, total points available to be won will be reduced by 10% for each vacant competitor placing. For example, if only 7 competitors are present, maximum points that can be won are reduced by 30%.

• A total of 2 - 8 timed race sessions (dependent on circuit) will be run per event, as well as numerous practice sessions throughout the day with professional motorsport coaches such as Ian Luff, John Boston, Ben Porter, David Reynolds and Jacky Yick to teach you new advanced driving skills and circuit techniques to really bring out your potential.

• Each timed session is an opportunity to accumulate points. If you leave the event early, or fail to participate in each timed session, you may not collect as many points as those competitors who do. E.g. a single 2 minute lap around Wakefield Park could still earn you 20 points for that session, and those 20 points may be all that you need at the end of the year to secure first place, win the coveted series trophy and another $1000 worth of prizes…think about it.

• Competitors must compete in a minimum 5 events to achieve / retain competition status. This is to ensure casual competitors do not take points away from individuals competing in the entire series – there are big prizes at stake this year!

• Only each competitor’s best 8 rounds of the series will be counted (out of a possible 10). In the event of a tie between competitors, total points accumulated over the entire year will be examined to determine placing.

• Only the registered competitor for a specific vehicle is permitted to drive / compete in the timed sessions.

• The committee reserves the right to apply a ‘time penalties’ and ‘time bonuses’ to competitor’s vehicles for the purpose of maintaining an even playing field amongst competitors. The time penalty / bonus will be fully disclosed and may be challenged by a competitor / all competitors in nominated category if considered harsh or unfair; however, the final ruling of the motorsport committee and its professional motorsport consultants is final and absolute.

Prizes and Award System

• Special awards and prizes will be given to the fastest outright times as well as the fastest handicap times in each category at each event. These prizes and awards will be awarded at the next event and awards are available to all competitors irrespective if competing in the entire race series or just one event.

• Special awards and prizes will be given to series award winners, determined at the end of the year, for the four class categories. Special recognition awards are available also – you have to be in it to win it.

Track Tyres

All tyres made reference to in the Cams Manual for Motor Sport (Section 6: General Requirements for Cars and Drivers, Schedule E as shown adjacent) will attract a time penalty. This also includes tyres with a tread wear index of 120 or less. Please note this time penalty varies according to the circuit in use. E.g. WP 2 – 3 seconds, EC 4 – 5 seconds.

Federal 595 RS Tyres carry a reduced time penalty of 50% of that of the tyres listed in the adjacent table - Data collected last year by competitors indicated no real timing advantage. Full Slick tyres incur a higher time penalty equivalent to a 50% increase of the tyres listed adjacent.

Competitors electing to run ‘Nankang’ or similar tyres with a tread wear index of 300 or more will receive a time bonus similar to that of the time penalties applied to semi slick tyres. This factor has been added to enable competitors with a $400 or less tyre budget to compete head to head with competitors with a $4000 / unlimited tyre budget.
