Hello
Race Fans,
The preliminary results are now in for
the DMS Detailing Sprint at Wakefield
Park!
There was not a cloud in the sky for
the 8th EPCC.net.au event of the year
– and what a day it was – there was
understeer, oversteer, loose wheel nuts,
plenty of kitty litter action and one
competitor even put his car into the
pond!
Just two more rounds to go now...be
sure to get your booking forms in quick
for the last two events.
A number of EPCC competitors may have
been at the ATC and the BMW / Porsche
Challenge however, it was still a full
house with over 60 vehicles in the pits
with everything from Alfa’s to VW’s
and of course Andrie’s Radical Clubsport–
without doubt the show stopping drawcard
of the day.
Dave from Team Vodafone was on site
and in car to help all competitors set
new PB’s and give each entrant the best
chance possible to take home their share
of $1400 worth of prizes thanks to DMS
Detailing and Sureflo Exhausts.
Joey with a new set of sticky Toyo R888’s
was set to defend his win and ‘STIG’
title from the last Wakefield Park Event
in a field of some seriously hot hatches
including a 5 door Audi S3...and they
weren’t making it easy for him.
Joey’s R26 was still the class leader
though with a best time of 1:12.2460,
narrowly ahead of Robert’s S3 on 1:12.4050
with Martin’s Meganne just a second
of the pace on 1:13.3970...
At the end of the day though the handicap
system had the results on their head
with Desmo’s Polo Git and Anthony’s
Clio Cup 2 tied for equal first on 25.6
pts with Joey narrowly missing out on
the win with 24.8 pts in second and
Sir Camel despite technical difficulties
during the day coming home in third
on 22.4.
Damien’s monster Lexus may have been
out with gearbox issues (your gearbox
would have issues to if it had 4ltr
twin turbo bolted to the front of it)
however, there were three more Lexus
Sports Coupes on site to fill the gap
going head to head with Germany’s Best
– Tony in his BMW 135i and Doug in his
Porsche Boxster in the Sports Coupe
Class
Benzai was the class leader in his Lexus
with a cracking time of 1:10.2990 with
Jeff (also behind the wheel of a Lexus)
just a second behind on 1:11.2040 with
Tony doing Germany proud with 1:12.3190
on the board for the Bavarians in the
E78 135i.
Benzai proved too fast for the rest
of the class claiming the win with 15.2
pts with both Doug and Jeff on 13.6
pts in equal second place with Tony
standing on the podium in third with
12 pts...four new competitors etching
their names on the leader board and
the history books this year.
Owen in his Jag XJ6 may have been the
only person in his category (come on
4 door people) but you would not have
guessed it by looking at him putting
on some spectacular tank slapping action
on almost every corner as he wrestled
almost 2 ton of British Steel around
the track to a personal best of 1:19.0110
and winning the converted “STIG” award
of the day narrowly ahead of Belal...very
close guys!
The ‘Circuit Breaker’ award – a bonus
prize for the fastest lap set – was
not on the table at this event as Andrie
is a good 10 seconds clear of the entire
field – even with only one hand on the
steering wheel, one eye closed and both
his feet tied together...that kind of
happens when your vehicle is engineered
to compete in LeMans – it is beyond
fast!
So instead he spiced up the open class,
created to cater for a growing field
of JDM entrants wanting in on the fun...and
the prize pool - $1400 worth why wouldn’t
you!
Andrie obviously led the field with
0:58.4160 laps with the mad Mazda’s
of Belal and Dion a respectable 17 seconds
behind.
It was Dion in the Mazda RX8 though
that stood atop the podium at the end
of the day in the open class on 19.8
pts with both Owen (in the mighty Jag)
and Dani (in the R33) coming in equal
second on 19.2 and Andrie claiming the
last step on the podium with a further
18.6 points to add to his tally (now
leading the class).
Congratulations to all the above winners
each winning a $200 Stage 1 Detail at
DMS Detailing dmsdetailing.com.au/ -
they can also upgrade to a Stage 2 Detail
for only $100!
Andrie and Owen also win a $100 cash
